Sony and NFL Join Tech Forces to Revolutionize Football Experience

NEW YORK and SAN DIEGO, July 31, 2024  — NFL (National Football League) announced Sony to be its official technology partner today. Sony will also be developing the coaching headsets for the NFL. 

Now Sony will work alongside NFL coaches, players, and leadership to enhance the football experience. Sony is expanding its sports technology through Hawk-eye innovation and on-filed and sideline technologies development. 

The new coaching headset, poised to debut in the 2025 season, will be developed by Sony after closely collaborating with the coach. Verizon will provide the 5G connection required for communication. 

Sony will use their Hawk-Eye tracking services to further enhance the accuracy of game-critical items. Sony’s Beyond Sports and its expertise in real-time visualization presents a chance to assist Gen-Z NFL fans. 

Gary Brantley, the chief information officer at the NFL said that their focus would be on building a long-term relationship with Sony as an official technology partner. He commented that the partnership will only strengthen the role of Sony in the NFL’s ever-growing technology ecosystem and will affect all dimensions of the sport to bring fans a better experience.  

Sony has been providing several years of technology to the NFL from photography to broadcast cameras and production and now headphones. Sony has so far presented the best of the NFL, considering their Hawk-Eye line-to-gain optical tracking technology. Neal Manowitz, the president and COO of Sony Electronics NA says they are committed to creating the future of sports with technology and revolutionizing the world of athletics.

Sony has also been the exclusive imaging products and support provider for the Associated Press, a trusted global news organization and definitive source for NFL imagery. They have been the consistent camera choice for all NFL coverage from 2020. NFL broadcast partners have also been using Sony cameras.

With this new partnership, the NFL and Sony will continue to work together to create new opportunities within football through the power of technology and remain committed to evolving the game to maximize engagement and enjoyment for fans, coaches, and players alike.
