How 5 Group Benefits Leaders Cut Costs and Improve CX with AI-Powered Automation

Cerence AI Adds Human-Like Voice to LG TVs Experience

Cerence Inc., a global leader in conversational AI, has announced a strategic partnership with LG Electronics to bring its advanced cloud-based neural text-to-speech (TTS) technology to LG’s worldwide television lineup. This move equips tens of millions of LG TVs with state-of-the-art, human-like voice interaction capabilities, marking Cerence AI’s expansion beyond its traditional focus in automotive and into the consumer electronics sphere.

The integrated solution leverages Cerence’s AI-driven TTS both in the cloud (when TVs are connected) and at the edge, supporting 65 voices in numerous languages. As a result, LG TVs can now deliver rapid, engaging, and natural spoken responses to user queries. This greatly enhances convenience for users searching for content, recommendations, or navigating television menus, transforming the television into a more interactive, conversational device.

Sample voice interactions enabled by this technology include searching for actors and genres or requesting personalized content suggestions. For example, when a user asks, “Find me movies with Tom Cruise,” the LG TV might respond in a natural way, offering tailored suggestions in a conversational tone. This approach moves beyond robotic responses, creating a fluent, human-like dialogue that simplifies user interactions.

A critical aspect of this implementation is improved accessibility. Cerence TTS is designed to meet demanding regulatory requirements, such as the European Accessibility Act, ensuring that LG TVs can be easily operated by users of all abilities. For the visually impaired, for instance, TTS reads menus and program details aloud, making the device more inclusive and practical.

Cerence’s neural Text-to-Speech (TTS) is seamlessly embedded in LG’s webOS smart TV platform, delivering ultra-low latency and minimal strain on device performance and CPU usage. This ensures advanced AI features are delivered without increasing hardware costs, making the upgrade economically viable at scale.

LG and Cerence plan to extend this voice-powered experience to additional LG webOS-based products in the future, furthering their collaboration. Both companies highlight that their partnership is pivotal in redefining user experience for consumer electronics, blending intuitive AI with flexible, scalable deployment.

According to LG’s Senior Director of webOS Product Planning and Cerence’s Chief Revenue Officer, the main objective is to offer users not only exceptional audiovisual quality but also a seamless, connected, and intuitive voice experience. This joint initiative underscores the rapid evolution of AI-driven interfaces in everyday devices, setting new benchmarks for accessibility, user engagement, and brand loyalty
