Emplifi Reveals Six Social Media Trends That Will Define 2026

Emplifi Reveals Six Social Media Trends That Will Define 2026

Emplifi has announced its yearly business outlook for the coming year. The platform, which is used by tens of thousands of organizations worldwide, predicts that 2026 will be a watershed moment for AI-powered social marketing, cross-functional customer journeys, and creator-led storytelling. The company’s forecasts pull from platform performance data and behavior patterns observed across global marketing, customer care, and commerce teams.

Emplifi frames the upcoming year around one defining shift. Brands will combine AI acceleration with authentic content creation to deliver more connected experiences across the customer lifecycle.

Susan Ganeshan, Chief Marketing Officer at Emplifi, says this shift is already reshaping expectations. “The next era of social media marketing will test brands like never before.”

She notes that generative AI has evolved into an essential layer of the martech ecosystem, giving teams the power to personalize campaigns, streamline operations, and improve results across every social channel.

Below is a closer look at all six predictions shaping the year ahead.

1. Short-Form Video and UGC Will Set the Creative Benchmark

Emplifi‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ shows that short videos are the leading creative work for 73% of marketers, while almost half of them are intensifying their focus on user-generated content. The demand for real, unedited stories from consumers motivates brands to heavily leverage such formats as Reels, TikTok clips, and Stories to get the attention of their audience in a very short time.

The triumphant creative strategies will combine the authenticity aspect with agility, thus providing content that is not only approachable but also natural in appearance.

2. Paid Media Spend Will Shift Toward Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok

To a great extent, the remaining portion of paid media budgets will be spent on video-centric platforms. According to Emplifi, the cutting edge of spending is towards Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, which is attributed to the excellent performance of social commerce on these channels.

The key to success is the rejection of copy-paste content reuse. Instead, marketers will engage platform-native strategies, such as immersive Shorts for YouTube, creator-led TikTok partnerships, and interactive Reels optimized for Instagram engagement.

3. Generative AI Will Evolve from Experiments to Core Workflows

Next year, generative AI is predicted to drastically expand its role and move away from only testing-and-learning initiatives. Emplifi forecasts that AI will be at the core of the martech stack; thus, it will be the main source for everyday tasks like writing content promptly, campaign adjustments, and reporting automation.

This transition paves the way for the presence of agentic AI, where autonomous systems that facilitate execution are the main assistants to marketers who spend their time on strategy, creativity, and performance optimization.

According to Ganeshan, “Based on our report findings, it’s undeniable that the next era of marketing will be won by the marketing teams that know how to capitalize on the AI-based tooling, including analytics, that are tailored to the business. Future leaders will use technology to amplify human connectivity rather than replace it. They will leverage AI to create more sustainable work environments, which will fuel the transformation and scale of the entire marketing organization.”

4. Virtual Influencers Will Complement, Not Replace, Human Creators

Although AI-only influencer partnerships have experienced a 30% decrease, virtual creators are still considered as one of the components of the influencer ecosystem. Emplifi predicts that these digital personas will be the tools through which brands will, for instance, scale experimentation, boost visual storytelling, or run specialized ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌campaigns.

Transparency will be essential. A recent Emplifi consumer study found 83% of audiences want clear disclosure when AI is involved. Human voices will remain the anchor, with virtual influencers serving as strategic complements.

5. Agentic AI Will Help Reduce Burnout Among Social Teams

Social media teams continue to face intense workloads. Emplifi’s State of Social Media Marketing report shows 52% of marketers experience burnout sometimes or very often, while another 24% face it occasionally.

Over the next year, agentic AI will take on routine and repetitive tasks such as scheduling, reporting, tagging, and content variations. This shift will enable teams to prioritize high-value creative work, easing pressure and improving overall output.

6. Marketing, Care, and Commerce Will Converge Into One Seamless CX

Two-thirds of social media marketers already collaborate closely with care and commerce teams. Emplifi expects those walls to break down even further. In 2026, social channels will increasingly function as the front door to the full customer experience, from discovery to purchase to customer service. Unified analytics and AI-powered workflows will help brands deliver journeys that feel cohesive rather than siloed.

Ganeshan emphasizes that this balance is vital. “The brands best positioned to thrive in the new year will know how to balance AI-powered workflows with authentic customer experiences.”

She adds that companies using agentic AI to remove friction and link insights across teams will be the ones defining the future of customer-centric engagement.
